Dear reader,

The planets do not act upon us, rather they mirror and reflect the consciousness of earth. They are energy patterns - celestial messengers - telling us what we need to become aware of in the collective (the outer planets) and our personal lives. They show us archetypes and shadows and what we need to integrate.

Hope for the future
This is the first New Moon of the Year. Each New Moon sets a tone for the month - a mood - it has an element - you can call it a colour. The story begins. What sign it is in will indicate what area of your birth chart you are being asked to focus on and develop. Aquarius is the element of air -communication , ideas and freedom. Air circulates and the air signs Gemini, Aquarius and Libra are leading the way forward this month.

This is the first New Moon of the year and it's one of two Solar eclipses. Eclipses always represent change and this one has a positive spin to it. We are moving into a new era - one where Barack Obama (with his acendant in Aquarius and Moon in Gemini) epitomises the new wave of hope and faith in the future.

Aquarius is the voice of the French Revolution of 1789- "Liberty, Equality, Fraternity" and the Declaration of Independence in 1776 which states that "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness".

On  13th March 1781 Uranus was discovered in the sign of Gemini. Now we are witnessing a quiet revolution that is no less powerful.

This eclipse sees Jupiter closely aligned with the Sun and Moon. Jupiter brings faith, protection, wisdom. Obama has chosen wise advisors, men and women with experience with a willingness to reach out and join with the opposition. Interestingly 8 out of a list of 16 top people on his staff are Sagittarians - the sign ruled by Jupiter. This is a new era of friendship, teamwork, unity and communication:-

"Some Republicans say they hear more from the Obama team than they ever did from the Bush administration." “We take the incoming president at his word,” said Representative Mike Pence of Indiana. “We’ve tried to extend the same hand of good faith. We know there are going to be differences, but I think most Republicans believe now is the time for us to work together on behalf of getting this economy moving.”

Era of Responsibility: A Sombre Tone Amid Celebration

Obama is a Leo with Saturn strong in the sign of Capricorn allied with Jupiter in Aquarius. His planets represent leadership, serious commitment and statesmanship with hope and optimism. This is clearly heard in his inauguration speech.

From the Internet "He offered a sobering critique of this country's problems: a weakened economy - "a consequence of greed and irresponsibility", a "collective failure to make hard choices".

Homes lost, businesses closed, schools failing. The picture he painted was of a country with a broken spirit and a loss of purpose, suffering from a "sapping of confidence".

But the man who made Hope a mantra of his campaign then began to chart America's course out from under its current cloud. He put his faith in the "makers of things" - drawing an unspoken contrast with the makers of money who helped spark the current financial crisis.

These workers, he suggested, were the true spirit of America, and carry the same potential as they have always had, to bring prosperity to the country."

Aquarius- Tarot Cards: The Star and The Queen of Swords
The Star is one who shines so brightly that all eyes turn toward them. We adore and celebrate them. The stars shine in the darkness and guide us Home. We wish upon a star to make our dreams come true. They represent our hopes and our heart's desire. The Star is the beginning of hope that arises from the dust when everything around us seems bleak. The Star is a renewal of faith in life and our Creator.

The Queens are the fixed signs of the zodiac which bring stability. This Queen holds the sword of truth upright pointing toward heaven.
