Conception and Birth
If you have a problem in your life that seems impossible to get through it could well have originated before your birth!

Dr. Chuck Spezzano (co-founder of Psychology of Vision) discovered that there is a direct link between your conception and your birth.

This is backed up by Pam in her experience with hundreds of participants on her workshops over the last 10 years and in her work as a consulting astrologer.

In Chuck's words:

"Conception is the root event in this life and generates life-long patterns.

Problems at the time of conception can come from our mother or father and their feelings about something in their lives or their situation.

Similarly, all feelings that our parents experienced during pregnancy, and any emotion experienced by anyone close to them (usually grandparents or siblings), have an indirect influence on us.

Our emotional experiences of these events provide aspects of our belief system. They are what we have come to work out and heal.

These issues, which include the general emotional atmosphere surrounding us and our parents at conception and birth, affect us profoundly.

Traumas at these times, if not healed, dictate the pattern of our life. Within the microcosm of conception and birth, the major patterns of our life can show themselves and be transformed."
From ' Healing the Body Through Mind and Metaphor' by Janie Ticehurst and Chuck Spezzano.

In the Womb
During pregnancy there may well have been a traumatic event in the mother's life. This can be the death of someone she loves or an accident that threatens the pregnancy. It could be events in the world such as a war or economic depression. The foetus feels this unconsciously. One of the most painful experiences might be if mother has previously miscarried, which means that the foetus can feel mother's fear that this might happen again.

Birth trauma
Many of us had a birth trauma that was undiagnosed. (However its worth saying that many of these interventions are often necessary and can even be life-saving.) These can be:-

• Obstetrical anaesthesia and analgesia e.g. gas and air, pethidine, epidurals, general anaesthesia. Mother isn't conscious and the drug affects the baby which can result in addictions to drugs or alcohol.

• The umbilical cord was cut prematurely. This is a shock of separation that doesn't allow for bonding with mother and can result in a lack of closeness with her. (Uranus is the planet that represents shock)

• Obstetrical interventions i.e. forceps, labour induction, premature rupturing of membranes.

• Birth complications e.g. foetal distress, breech presentation.

• Prematurity.

• Separation from mother for cleaning, weighing, suctioning etc.

•Caesarean section can result in an instinctive feeling that whatever happens in life you will be rescued at the last minute.

The trauma is still present in us and shows up as difficulty in moving forward in our lives with ease. (We can recreate the womb trauma at the same age in years as it happened in the womb in months.)

Each time there’s a trauma and shock in our life we get pushed off our centre. We carry on with our life but find it difficult to receive the abundance and happiness that is our birthright.

To use a Ten Pin Bowling metaphor -it's as if we are trying to bowl a ball in lane 1 but are standing in lane 22!

The Question to ask yourself
The question is, how much of your life force did you lose at birth? On a scale of 0-100% how much of you 'died'? Many people reply that 90% died. That means they are living their lives with only 10% of their energy.

No wonder we have problems!

If you’ve been feeling ‘stuck’ then it could relate to the first event in your life—your birth or the first few years of life.

Astrology
In the astrological chart these womb and birth traumas can be seen by the presence of the powerful major planets, Saturn, Chiron, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto in the 12th house of the chart. The 12th is prebirth. Mars aspecting or close to the ascendant shows the intervention of a surgeon.

Among the vast majority of psychiatrists and psychologists today, the notion persists that there cannot be any real trauma at birth because the immature brain cannot register it!

Otto Rank, an early disciple of Freud, became convinced of the reality of birth trauma and devoted himself passionately to construction of a form of psychoanalysis which worked directly with birth (see The Trauma of Birth originally written in 1924).

For a thorough historical review, see Elizabeth Noble (1993), Primal Connections. Current psychologists and psychiatrists for whom birth trauma is central to therapy include:-
Arthur Janov (The New Primal Scream 1991)
Stanislav Grof (The Holotropic Mind, 1992)
