| Uranus represents originality and unconventionality but also the rebel and
revolutionary. It comes into its full power at mid life.
This can be both the unusual and brilliant genius or the wilful rebel without a cause. This planet tells us the areas in which we break with convention, become innovative and experiment with new and exciting ideas.
Uranus represents the creative genius which comes directly via our higher self, especially when it aspects Mercury, the planet of communication. Uranus is the higher octave of Mercury.
Uranus is the planet that represents
The Rebel Archetype. It's also The Inventor, The
Genius, The Revolutionary.
Uranus has an 84 year orbit, so is active at age 21, 42, 63 and 84. These are ages when a person needs to break free form convention and individuate.
It is most often experienced when it makes an opposition to the natal position at age 42, the age known as the
mid-life crisis. It can disrupt like no other
energy and is
often
seen
in
divorce
or dramatic
life
change. Astrologer Jeffrey Wolf Green links it to
mental traumas and it certainly has an impact on
the nervous system.
Uranus rules accidents, shocks, and evrything unpredictable such as earthquakes, electrical storms. In mythology Uranus is called Ouranus the original creator sky god.
On November 4th 2008 Uranus made its first opposition to Saturn and Barack Obama was elected in the US. This was the first of 5 oppositions.
Saturn is structure and Uranus disrupts -so this is part of the reason why we have been undergoing the shake ups in the world of banking and traditional institutions.
Now in 2010 the last 2 oppositions are coming about. It is a time when we are called to change. To change from a fear based reality (Saturn) to one of creativity and inspiration (Uranus).

Uranus was discovered by William Herschel in 1781 at the time of the French and American revolutions and the industrial revolution in England.
A planet's discovery is indicative of what is arising in the collective. Hence Uranus resonates with revoloution and urge for freedom, for independence and individuation. It governs liberty and human rights, rebellion, and social and technological advancement.
