Venus: Love, Relationships and Beauty
Venus is the diamond -the brightest 'star' in the sky apart from the Moon.

It orbits between the Sun and the earth. It can only be in the same zodiac sign as the Sun or the sign either side. It is like the 'hand mirror' of the Sun.

Venus by sign
Signs are like the costumes of actors (planets) or the lens through which we see the energy. It colours the planet. Venus rules the signs of Taurus (sensuality) and Libra (the arts and diplomacy). Venus will show you your style, your beauty and the kind of clothes you like to wear. For instance, in a Saturn ruled sign like Capricorn a person might be happiest in classic business suits, or the new work uniform of denim.

MAYANS
The Mayans established their religion and rituals on the cycles of Venus. As Venus was masculine to the Mayans, this third brightest body in the heavens was synonymous with the mythic Quetzalcoatl, the plumed serpent, the divine man, knowledge, culture, art and ritual.

Mesoamerican astronomers began reckoning the cycle of Venus at its inferior conjunction with the Sun (Venus between earth and Sun). This occurs every 584 days, when Venus is closest to the earth and appears in retrograde motion. This occurs when Venus is ending its 263-day period as the evening star and beginning its equal length period as morning star.

The interval between these two appearances is eight days, when Venus is invisible. This is a very sacred period, a time of transformation.

ARCHANGELS
Bill Hollon's "Speculation about Archangels," links the seven archangels to the seven visible planets. He connects Lucifer and the planet Venus. This fits closely with Jungian insights into the western repression of the archetypes of Lucifer (Light-Bearer) as well as the "dark feminine".

Venus is characterised by different people either as a fallen angel, a planet or both. Lucifer is the Christian name for a being that meets each test.

THE BIBLE
In the New Testament, Revelations 2:28, 8:10-11, and 22:16 we find these interesting quotes:

“And I will give him the morning star.”
“And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp. And the name of the star is called Wormwood.”

(The word wormwood comes from Old English ‘wermod’ meaning “spirit mother;” the herb artemesia absinthium is sacred to the goddess.)

"Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David and the bright and morning star.”

It seems both Isaiah and the writer of Revelations equated the morning star Venus (Shaher) with enlightenment. Remember the Wise Men from the East following a “star?”

The evening star Venus often symbolised a fall from grace. In Hebrew mythology, however, the morning star, Shaher, has a twin, the evening star, called Shalem, or peace.

IN YOUR HOROSCOPE
It is important to notice the phase of Venus in an individual horoscope. In the morning phase, Venusian qualities are expressed in an extroverted way, and assertively. In its evening phase, the expression is relatively passive, though highly magnetic.

When Venus is Angel of the Morning, the person may be dominated by desires and others may use him or manipulate him through those feelings. As the contrite Fallen Angel of evening, the solar qualities of will and intentionality tend to dominate, control and direct the Venusian impulses of the individuals. The person uses his or her charm and is less used by it.

For example Marilyn Monroe had Venus rising in Aries ahead of her Gemini Sun (Morning Star), while Elizabeth Taylor has it setting in Aries behind a Pisces Sun (Evening Star). Marilyn was driven to early fame and a tragic early burn-out and death. Elizabeth experienced fame at an even earlier age and is still mesmerizing the public and magnetizing huge wealth in her seventies.

Venus Retrograde
VEDIC VIEW "During its retrograde phase, Venus’ energy sometimes becomes excessive. A retrograde planet is technically stronger, but usually possesses "strength to a fault". As a planet retrogrades, its energy seems to spill over. This sometimes produces a tendency to obsess about the things the planet represents.

Venus’ retrograde period is generally not a good time to start new relationships, get married, purchase vehicles or new homes. A retrograde Venus, however, can be a good period for fixing, repairing, or refining anything that is related to Venus.

It is good time for visiting old friends, repairing or redecorating a home, or refining a creative project. Because the disposition of Venus in your horoscope shows how you give and receive love and affection, this period is also a good time for doing a little psychological homework on various types of personal relationships". Titian's version of the birth of Venus

Here is the rose pattern that is the path of Venus relative to the earth over 8 Earth years (which is 13 Venus years).

When Venus approaches and passes its alignment with Earth, we experience a Venus retrograde period. At that time, when viewing Venus from Earth's perspective, Venus appears to move backward (westward) in the backdrop of the stars.

The rose-pattern shown revolves very slowly in sidereal space, moving by a degree or so every 8-year cycle against the stars.
