DEFINITION "Karma is not fate, for man acts with free will creating his own destiny. According to the Vedas, if we sow goodness, we will reap goodness; if we sow evil, we will reap evil. Karma refers to the totality of our actions and their concomitant reactions in this and previous lives, all of which determines our future. The conquest of karma lies in intelligent action and dispassionate response." Wikipedia

Karma - fate or free will?

Do you think that astrology is fated? That it takes away our free will? It's a question that I had to answer when I sat my astrology exams in 1993. At the time I certainly believed in free will but thought that fate also played a part in my life.

If we believe we have no free will, that we are in the hands of fate, then we take no responsibility for what happens to us in our lives. We become victims. There's a voice saying 'It's not my fault, it's just my karma' which traps us and keeps us small.

Astrologers (mea culpa) are prone to blaming planets for the events in our lives. 'Mars is opposite my Sun' elicits sympathy from others who let us off the hook for any anger and tantrum we might be having.

The argument for fate that is most convincing is when great disasters happen. How could the innocent victims chose it?

Now, through my spiritual training in Psychology of Vision and understanding the power of the mind, I have changed my view.

If we believe we have no free will, that we are in the hands of fate, then we take no responsibility for what happens to us in our lives. We become victims. This disempowers us and is the strategy of the ego which wants to keep us small.

This is not to say that when someone is hurt or in the throes of a disaster in their life that you say 'you created and chose this'. Instead you give them support, love and understanding. There is an appropriate time for healing the story and that comes later when- and if - they are ready.

Overcoming our victim stories is a process that is not easy. We have layers upon layers of beliefs about ourselves that have been built up over time.

To clear karma means to make new choices. As Wayne Dyer says “How people treat you is their karma; how you react is yours.”

CHUCK SPEZZANO writes:-
"Karma is a belief that we are guilty and must be punished. It sets up a belief that we can't change and that things can't change.

It's purpose is to keep things stuck or delayed for a very long time. Karma is a belief that we did something bad before and now we must pay for it. We have sinned and must be punished. Rather than correct the mistake we do things in the hardest possible way. But it's just a mistake because it can be transformed quickly.

In Sanskrit, Karma means action and it an be changed. It can be transformed quickly and simply. The same with sin.

Through forgiveness and self forgiveness we free ourselves from the guilt that makes the concept of sin self destructive and self punishing. This can become a conspiracy that can keep us completely distracted and trapped in an effort to pay off the karma."

Remember GOD does not believe in karma!
It's our projection on God that makes us think he'll punish us. God is love, how could he punish us, his children? He'd lose his God papers if he did! We are innocent.

Workshops truly are the fast track to help free you from guilt and clear karma by understanding and forgiving those who have hurt you. Find out more about how a Psychology of Vision Workshop can help you >

KARMA
Hindu scriptures divide karma into three kinds: Sanchita (accumulated), Prarabdha (fruit-bearing) and Kriyamana (current) karma.

Komilla Sutton writes: "Kriyamana karma is the most important. This is the karma that we actually make of our own choice and free will.

It is the karma of choosing what to do - if we're angry, how will we react? If we feel victimised, will we change? A great deal in Vedic astrology is concerned with understanding this particular karma and the choices we face.

By deliberately making the right choices we're not only improving things in this lifetime, but also preventing negative karma from being carried forward. We're raising our consciousness that bit higher."
