Sabotaging Your Success

"The more important a call or action is to our soul's evolution, the more Resistance we will feel toward pursuing it." Steven Pressfield from The War of Art

Are you aware that a hidden part of you could be sabotaging your success?

Are you caught in a conflict or a whale of a problem? Feeling overwhelmed - as if the odds are stacked against you?

Are you driving yourself and working extra hard yet there's little reward? Does each day end with feelings of exhaustion and you relax and overindulge with one glass of wine too many? Are you torn by indecision? On the horns of a dilemma?

All of this will leave you with little or no time to focus on your purpose. On what's really important. Are you sensing that success is in sight but that failure is also very likely?

How successful, how much in the flow are you in right now on a scale of 0-100%?

If the answer is less than 100% you are caught in 'doing' - the masculine principle - and you aren't receiving which is the feminine principle. The natural flow that comes with success is blocked.

Success v Failure
This week I chose cards to understand the process that was going on around me. The first was 'Success in Business', the second 'Failure in Business'. The third was 'Hidden Self'. I had to wait a few days until this hidden self showed itself to me.

The Hidden Self needs acknowledging
The dynamic of a hidden self is that it's a subconscious personality, often with a different goal than our conscious mind which wants success and to live our purpose.

It is important for you to find your Hidden Self, learn what its purpose is and help it to be more effective. You are being asked to discover and integrate a part of you which is very different from what you know in your conscious mind.

Some people use intuition, or meditation to find their Hidden Self. Others are most effective using their dreams to pull it to the surface. One way to do this is to programme your mind before going to sleep and ask your Hidden Self to become visible to you. Simply choose that it will be demonstrated to you in a dream.

My hidden self was called Resistance
Resistance is natural, we all have it. The most important thing is not to judge it. It's easy to see in others. People show up late, they opt out of their promises. They always have very good excuses. When this happens around you its a reflection of some part of yourself. Our partner or close friend will inevitably show us our subconscious mind. It's vital not to feel angry with people who let you down but instead to to appreciate them for showing you this part of you that is holding back. We all have a a natural fear of change - of the unknown.

I liken it to childbirth
There's often a time when during labour the birth process seems to stop. The mother can be tempted to go home. Its just that the baby is waiting. Birth is after all the most dangerous and hazardous journey we can ever make. To approach our fear of the next step with the kindness and compassion we have for a baby approaching birth is very helpful.

What is your resistance against your success?
We create dilemmas as a form of disguising our resistance. Our purpose can seem intimidating, too big. The problems are there as distractions. Any accident or illness serves the same purpose. It's our resistance to moving forward that is making life lack ease.

This Hidden Self needs acknowledging
It is a part of the mind which, in most ways, is thinking to be helpful to the general self, but whose strategy is ineffective and often destructive. It is common to find three-year-old selves hidden inside us who actually have very big purposes (or tasks) which they are particularly ineffective at accomplishing. There may be selves which have been passed down through the family, generation after generation.

To find your Hidden Self, imagine that your conscious mind is taking a break, and relax
Ask yourself the name of this hidden personality and see what pops in.

Tune into it, ask how old it is and how long it has been with you
Just trust the intuition or guesses that come to you. As you get to know your Hidden Self, ask what its purpose is and do not be afraid to engage it in a ‘conversation’ or to question its motives. Ask what it wants to give you and what it needs from you. Often it has good reasons to hold you back.

The best way to help a Hidden Self succeed is to have it integrate with your conscious self
Just feel it melting in and joining your conscious mind, so that the two energies become one, focused on the same goal. This way your Hidden Self and its contribution will be accomplished in truth once it has joined and is working with you. Instead of having two different goals, your Hidden Self’s true goal is integrated with yours and you become more effective.

Sometimes you will find a Hidden Self whose purpose is self-destruction
This simply means that the Hidden Self is not fully in touch with its real purpose and its strategy for accomplishing this is misdirected. If this occurs, just keep asking the Hidden Self its true purpose until you get down to the underlying reason – this might be that it wants you all for itself. You can tell it that it can't do this while you are split. It can only achieve it when you join.

The integration of the Hidden Self with your conscious self will bring positive energy back to you. Your true purpose can show itself and there will be an ending of conflicts and dilemmas.

with warmest wishes,

HEALING METHOD
If someone around you is in fear then you can help them by extending the light within you to them. As you do this you build a bridge and natural connection between your light and theirs. As you open and give to them you will naturally receive their light and love.

ASTROLOGY NOTE: A HURRICANE ON SATURN
There is an amazing hurricane on Saturn which is extraordinary. The photo taken for NASA looks like an eye. So what is Saturn asking us to look at? It represents the planet of resistance and our fears.
It is the critical parent that says "you'll never be good at that!" However if we practise and work hard to improve our weakness we can become a master in that area. In this way Saturn is a spiritual teacher of wisdom.
