August New Moon in Virgo and The Yod
The New Moon was in Virgo on Saturday 23rd August at 7.06am BST in the UK.
There is the extraordinary formation of the Yod, also known as the Finger of Fate. It points toward the Sun and Moon -a call for leadership and for healing.
The sign of Virgo is the Maiden, a feminine, grounded earth sign. Mercury enters Virgo on September 2nd after 13 weeks in Leo. Meanwhile Venus begins her annual 3 week journey through Leo. We are also approaching eclipse season in the Virgo/Pisces axis -always a time for change.
The major aspect of the New Moon is Uranus triggering revolution and dramas as seen in the news with controversy over the sudden arrival of multiple flags of St George. Patriotism or racism?
This August New Moon in Virgo is ruled by Mercury which is now direct and soon to move out of its shadow on August 25th at 15 degrees 24 mins. That’s the degree when it went retrograde on July 18th. We will have been enduring 13 weeks of Mercury in Leo, so how has that been for you? However Mercury is the least of our problems right now.
What was forming at this New Moon in Virgo is called a Yod-or Finger of Fate. The planet at the apex shows where pressure is focused. This is the Sun and the Moon both in Virgo. The Sun represents leadership, the Moon the emotions. Once Mercury enters Virgo this is heightened through September.
This Yod brings pressure packed into possibility. Instead of a smooth new beginning (as New Moons often bring), this one has built-in tension and adjustment. The Yod pushes you to adjust and pivot — not just push ahead. From the Internet:-
- Set Intentions, but Let Them Evolve. This New Moon seeds new beginnings, but the Yod suggests the plan you start with may not be the one you finish with — here, adaptability is more valuable than precision. This is especially true since Saturn is now retrograde and changes back into Pisces on September 1st.
- Ease into Change. Saturn suggests slowing down; Neptune brings the vision; Pluto deepens. Balance structure, imagination, and transformation — but be gentle with yourself.
- Focus on the Process, Not the Outcome. Virgo’s energy thrives in daily refinements — small rituals, health practices, thoughtful tweaks are powerful now. Tidying, letting go of clutter, the cleansing rituals of everyday life.

- 19th Mercury trines Uranus and Pluto. Moon joins Venus

- Sun in Virgo until September 22nd when it moves into Libra at the Autumn Equinox.
- Venus in Leo. Moves into Virgo on September 19th.
- Mercury is now direct in Leo. Moves into Virgo September 2nd where it is exalted. Into Libra September 18th.
- Full Moon Partial Eclipse September 7th at 15 degrees Pisces. Avoid starting anything new on this day.
- Mars in Libra. The shadow of Libra is indecision! Moves into Scorpio, a sign that it co-rules, on September 22nd. Mars is a two year orbit so this is a great opportunity for everyone who has a planet in Scorpio.
- New Moon Partial Solar Eclipse September 21st at 29 degrees Virgo. Avoid starting anything new on this day.
- Jupiter in Cancer all month.
- Saturn is now retrograde. Back into Pisces on September 1st.
- Uranus is now direct in Gemini. This is a major shift of energy. It goes retrograde on September 6th.
- Neptune is now retrograde in Aries
- Pluto is now retrograde in Aquarius for the long haul.

Mars is weak in Libra as its ruled by Venus. Pluto is now retrograde. Pluto is an outer planet and affects world events. It has now ended its journey in the earth sign of Capricorn. Pluto becomes more personal if it connects with one of inner planets in your chart. These are the Sun, Moon, Mercury Venus and Mars. It is activated at mid-life when it makes a square to itself around the age of 38. It moved into Aquarius last year from January 21st until September 2nd 2024 when it retrograded back in Capricorn. However now it is firmly in Aquarius so is a major transit.
