September Partial Solar Eclipse in Virgo
The New Moon is a Partial Solar Eclipse in Virgo. It was on Sunday 21st September at 20.54 BST in the UK.
This concludes the eclipse season in the Virgo/Pisces axis -always a time for change. However the degree of this eclipse at 29 degrees remains potent for 6 months. Take a look at your birth chart to see if this applies. Also relevant are any planets between 27 and 2 degrees.
The major aspect of the New Moon is that both the Sun and the Moon are opposed by Saturn and Neptune-a signature for sacrifice. This combination of Saturn with Neptune creates tension and potential synergy between the material and the spiritual, the real and the ideal.
This Partial Solar Eclipse in Virgo is ruled by Mercury which is now direct and in the sign of Libra. However Mercury is the least of our problems right now. Mars moves into its own sign of Scorpio a day later at the Autumn Equinox. Mars takes 2 years to travel through the 12 signs so this last happened in October 13th to November 24th 2023.
Mars is in a challenging square aspect to Pluto in Aquarius. Venus is also challenged by a square to Uranus. So both the personal planets that signify relationships are compromised. Uranus wants freedom and independence. Pluto takes us deep into the underworld. and the unconscious. This is shadow work. Power struggles ensue. Just watch the news-if you can bear to!
On a positive note Mercury in Libra is in mutual reception with Venus in Virgo, as they’re currently occupying each other’s signs. This is helpful and is creates a supportive flow between mind and heart, communication and what we love. It lasts up until October 7th when Mercury changes sign into Scorpio.
Mercury is the planet to watch in the weeks ahead as it moves through Scorpio and joins Mars in Scorpio. Scorpio co-rules Pluto, the symbol of buried power and taboos. Conspiracies can be exposed and the truth -focused on fellow water sign Jupiter in Cancer -can lead the way forward. Meanwhile use Venus in Virgo’s energy to sort things out, get rid of clutter and introduce healthier daily routines into your life.

- New Moon Partial Solar Eclipse September 21st at 29 degrees Virgo
- Sun in Virgo until September 22nd when it moves into Libra at the Autumn Equinox.
- Venus in Virgo from September 19th. Into Libra on October 13th.
- Mercury is now direct in Libra from September 18th. Into Scorpio on October 6th. Into Sagittarius on October 29th.
- Full Moon October 7th at 14 degrees Aries.
- Mars in Scorpio, a sign that it co-rules, on September 22nd. Mars is a two year orbit so this is a great opportunity for everyone who has a planet in Scorpio.
- New Moon October 21st at 28 degrees Libra. Avoid starting anything new on this day.
- Jupiter in Cancer all month.
- Saturn is now retrograde. Back into Pisces on September 1st.
- Uranus is now retrograde from September 6th.
- Neptune is now retrograde in Aries. It returns to Pisces on October 22nd.
- Pluto is now retrograde in Aquarius for the long haul.

It is activated at mid-life when it makes a square to itself around the age of 38. It moved into Aquarius last year from January 21st until September 2nd 2024 when it retrograded back in Capricorn. However now it is firmly in Aquarius so is a major transit.
